First Look vs Traditional

Are you struggling to decide whether to do a first look or wait till the ceremony to see each other for the first time?  It’s the question I get asked the most often.  Although I do have an opinion, the decision needs to be made between you and your partner and what works best for you.  There are definitely advantages to both so let’s get into it!

First Look Pros:

*This will be a special intimate moment between just the two of you.

*It can relieve stress.  Wedding days can be stressful and if your person is your calm, then it would be best to see each other before the ceremony and relieve that stress.

*It allows you to spend more time together and more time with your wedding party.

*It allows you time for hair and makeup touch-ups before more pictures happen.

*There is no hiding and worrying if the groom might catch an accidental glance of you.

*We can take advantage of the full venue, before any guests show up.

*You have time for private vows, gift exchanges and exchanging letters with each other.

Traditional Pros:

*First of all, it is traditional.  Most parents and grandparents will prefer you go this route.  Just remember that this is your day and you do what you want.

*After the ceremony, you can have a cocktail hour where your guests can mingle with each other while we do the pictures.

*The ceremony will most likely be earlier in the day, so we have time afterwards for the pictures we need to get before the sun goes down.

*I suggest different looks for the first look and the ceremony.  I always suggest waiting to put on your veil or belt or over-skirt for just the ceremony, so there is a little more wow factor when you walk down the aisle.

*There is a lot of anticipation leading up to this big moment and that can be super exciting!!

Alternatives:

*You can do a first touch, where you have that special moment together to pray, exchange private vows, gifts, and letters without actually seeing each other.

*You can do a first look but wait to have your first kiss at the ceremony. Making if a great compromise between the two options.
